Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad!!!

Today is the 48th Wedding Anniversary of my parents, Don and Sharron Tisor.  Just LOOK at the both of them!  Are they not precious?!  My heart is comforted, just by seeing their faces.
Neither of them ate much at their wedding reception, so when they drove up the coast for their Santa Barbara honeymoon, they were very hungry.  Restaurants were closed, so my dad went to a liquor store and bought crackers, cheese, and Vienna sausages, and he took them to their hotel room where they also enjoyed champagne served in two champagne glasses they received as a wedding gift.

When they arrived home, my mom discovered that one of the two champagne glasses had broken.  She was absolutely devastated.

A year later on their first wedding anniversary, my father, ever the romantic, brought home to my mother crackers, cheese, Vienna sausages, champagne, and a single champagne glass to replace the one that broke the year before.  For every anniversary since, my father has maintained this tradition of bringing home the crackers and snacks, giving her a new champagne glass without fail, every year.

I was their first baby, and when I was old enough, I enjoyed the celebration right along with them but with 7-Up instead of champagne, this being in the days before Martinelli's.  Except for that time when I was 3, and I dunked my crackers into their champagne without my parents knowledge.  They didn't discover what I had been doing until they realized that their little girl was really giggly.  Like, exceptionally giggly.  I was sitting in my little wooden rocking chair, flinging my legs over the arm of the chair, throwing my head back, just laughing away, nibbling on my spiked crackers.

As Misti, Gregg, and Lori came along, they joined the celebration as well.  It became an all-family annual celebration.  All of us kids looked forward to Daddy coming home with his goodies, and we'd all wait with anticipation to see the beautiful champagne glass that he would give our mom.

Now, 48 years later, my parents have their 4 kids, the spouses of their 4 kids, and the 10 grandchildren their 4 kids have given them.  Whenever we can, we all get together at my parents' house, and every May 2 we break out the crackers, gag on the Vienna sausages (just not a fan), and bask in the tradition.  The comfort.  The security.  And the champagne glass reveal.

What a legacy these two have established.  I am so grateful to the both of my parents for their lasting example of faithfulness.  It has impacted our lives more deeply than they could have imagined.

Happy Anniversary, Dad and Mom/Papa and Grammie!!!!!

  1. Their faithfulness to one another means so much to me, having come from a broken home. I am honored to celebrate their commitment and marriage now as their daughter in law. So special!
