She was evaluated and tested yesterday and today by the oncology team, as well as the neurology team. They did an EEG to see whether she has been having seizure activity, as her left hand tremors now. The conclusion was that there have not been any seizures, but after they did a CT scan, they saw that the tumor has not only not stopped growing after the one and only chemo treatment, but that it has actually continued to increase in size. The conclusion here was that her body didn't respond to that particular drug.
A different chemo drug isn't an option right now. Her only option is to receive a super boost of steroid treatments every 6 hours for the next 48 hours. She will be given triple the dose she had been given before.
They will do another CT scan in 48 hours, and if there is change, they will evaluate her to determine the best course of action. If there is no change, they will stop treatment and send her home with Hospice.
The pneumonia seems to be improving, according to my ex-husband. He said that they continue to suction stuff from her lungs, and I don't really know what that is all about if it isn't pneumonia. But he says that that particular problem seems to be better, in spite of what they continue to remove.
Her vitals have been doing well thus far. But she has had to start receiving insulin due to the reaction her body has had with the nutrients she has received through her IV. Again, according to my ex-husband, she wasn't diabetic before, but has developed a sugar problem through her ordeal.
We sure would appreciate any and all prayers for Mary. That her body will respond well to the steroid, that she won't develop complications from such a high dose, and that the tumor will decrease. Pray also that her neurological functions would return. At this point, she just sleeps.
Thank you.
